| Description | VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Currituck, based out of Wilmington, N.C., was off the Virginia Beach coast July 18-21, 2012 to dredge the shoaling in Rudee Inlet. The inlet is a shallow draft federal navigation channel used to support an abundance of commercial, recreational, and even smaller military vessels. That includes many tourism boosting recreational and touring companies that draw people to Virginia Beach and boost the local economy. The Currituck, one of the Corps' dredges, is a highly utilized resource throughout coastal projects along the East Coast. During this project, approximately 7,715 cubic yards was dredged. The Wilmington, NC-based Currituck will return to Virginia next year to dredge anticipated shoaling in the channel. (U.S. Army photo/Pamela Spaugy) |
