Summary[edit]

Description
Čeština: Rudolf Habsburský jako hrabě
English: Seal of w:Rudolf I, King of Germany King of the Romans (House of Habsburg) (1218-1291) the first King of Germany from the House of Habsburg, he reigned from 1273 until his death in 1291. Inscribed in Latin:
  • S(IGILLUM) COMIT(IS) RUD(OLFI) D(E) HABESB(URG) LA(N)TGRAVII ALSATI(A)E ("Seal of Count Rudolf of Habsburg, Landgrave of Alsace")
  • Arms of Habsburg (ancient): Or, a lion rampant gules crowned armed and langued azure. Replaced by Habsburg (modern), being the arms of Babenberg (Duchies of Austria and Styria): Gules, a fess argent (known as the Bindenschild - see Category:Bindenschild)
The crest appears to be that of Kyburg, his mother's family. The usual Habsburg crest was a plume of ostrich feathers (the Pfauenstoß). Rudolf I was the son of Albert IV (or Albert the Wise) (c. 1188 – December 13, 1239), Count of Habsburg, by his wife Heilwig daughter of Count Ulrich of Kyburg (died 1237)
