Summary[edit]
DescriptionRoutemaster RM110 (LO L1D), Showbus 1989 (1).jpg |
English: A Routemaster bus with a cut-down upper deck. It was delivered to London Transport in 1959 as reg. VLT 110, No. RM110, and was operated mainly from Poplar (PR) garage until 1976, at Sidcup (SP) until 1981, Streatham (AK) until 1985. It was in deregulation service in Scotland with Clydeside Scottish (and successor Western Scottish). It was withdrawn in 1990, and briefly hired by Eastern Scottish for the Highland Show in July 1990. It was briefly sold into preservation in August 1990, before being sold to the Smoke City Wheelers, a custom car company, in November 1991, having been re-registered XMD 79A as the original plate was kept by the seller. The Wheelers re-registered it RSK 572 in April 1992. They customised it at Hackney bus garage, reducing the height of the roof, and it is pictured in this state at the Showbus rally, with 'show plate' LO L1D. It was sold in April 2004 to the Welsh Transport Museum, who intended to convert back to a normal state, but due to the cost they immediately sold it to London bus operator Blue Triangle as a source for spares. Recognising its unique status, they advertised it for sale, pointing out its low height meant it could be used in Europe, which has lower height restrictions. After passing through dealer Ensign Bus, it was bought by an individual based at the Potter's Arms pub in Cove, Farnbrough, Hampshire, in August 2005. After being painted as a World Cup bus, it was exhibited (still as RSK 572) at a rally held at Aldershot Station Car Park, Hampshire, to mark 100 years of Aldershot & District, and then driven to the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. It returned to Cove after the tournament, and was still there in at least 2009, for sale. |
