Summary[edit]

Description
English: Field kitchen, France, during World War I. The cliff face and trenches are visible in the background. The front is dominated by milling groups of soldiers, some are already sitting down. The 'kitchens' consist mainly of carts and stoves on carts. It is a very busy place.

Field kitchens had to be mobile and able to move at a moment's notice, the same as the rest of the army, which explains why the kitchen is on wheels.
