English: Lower Permian (Rotliegend) cap rocks of the crystalline basement of the Sprendlingen Horst in western slope of the Messel Pit Fossil Site. The originally red, poorly lithified sands are stained due to the reducing conditions in the vicinity of the Eocene oil shales.
Deutsch: Rotliegend-Sande (Unterperm) in der Westböschung der Grube Messel. Die normalerweise rot gefärbten Sedimente sind hier aufgrund der reduzierenden Bedingungen, die vom Messeler Ölschiefer ausgehen, gebleicht. |
