Español: ROTACIÓN SINCRÓNICA o TIDAL LOCKING.

Se tienen dos cuerpos masivos uno mayor (M1) y otro menor (M2) orbitando.

La rotación síncrona o sincrónica es el movimiento de un cuerpo que tarda el mismo tiempo en girar (rotar) sobre sí mismo y en completar una órbita (trasladarse) alrededor del cuerpo central; por lo tanto, mantiene siempre el mismo hemisferio apuntando al cuerpo al que orbita.

Estos dos movimientos síncronos se encuentran dentro de la Esfera de Roche o de Hill, y la sincronicidad depende de las dos masas, M1 y M2 y la distancia que las separa.

La Luna es un ejemplo de rotación síncrona con su órbita. Muchos de los satélites naturales del sistema solar tienen rotación síncrona debido al acoplamiento de marea.

Ejemplos en el Sistema Solar: Tierra y Luna, Marte y (Fobos-Deimos), Júpiter e (Io-Europa-Ganímede-Callisto), Saturno y Titán, Urano y (Miranda-Ariel-Umbriel-Titania-Oberón), Neptuno y (Proteus-Tritón), Plutón y Charón.

En Estrellas: Tau Bootis y Planeta Gigante.
