Title
Roman unidentified object
Description
English: A cast copper probable mount of a vesica or eye- shaped dating to the Roman period, (AD43-410). The object is oval in plan and D-shaped in cross-section. The centre of the object is raised and flat and is inlaid with four triangles of blue glass. The glass forms a flower-like design. The edges of the object are 'crimped' with ridges of copper alloy radiating outwards from the central design. The edges of the object are incomplete due to both recent and ancient damage and there is no trace of the hinge remaining. The rear of the object is undecorated and is slightly hollow. The blue enamel provides the object with a date of the 2nd-3rd century AD.
