Title
Roman tweezers
Description
English: A complete pair of copper-alloy tweezers, probably Roman in date. The tweezers are formed from a single strip of copper alloy (0.5mm thick). This has been folded over on itself at a defined loop to form a sprung end. The two arms of the tweezers touch together at the loop end and are separate at the gripping end. They are 39.4mm long and flare gradually along their length (5.2mm at the loop to 5.6mm at the tip) towards the tip which is narrowed. The metal has a dark-green patina. The tweezers are decorated at the suspension end with incised horizontal lines and there are traces of silvering. These tweezers were found with an ear scoop with the same decoration (PUBLIC-48B256) so formed part of a toilet set (nail cleaner missing).
Similar tweezers can be found illustrated in Wedlake 1982 219, fig.94, no.2., Bailey 1997 79 no.8 and PAS ref. WILT-6BB391
