Title
Roman toilet article
Description
English: Incomplete Roman copper alloy toilet article, originally part of a set, and consisting of the loop and handle only. It is highly decorative and survives to a length of 42.9mm. It weighs 4.23g.

The loop is an inverted U and has a 1.6mm diameter central piercing. It is mounted on a squashed boss decorated with cross-hatching and 7.8mm in diameter. Below is a double collar, a space and a single collar.

The stem of the toilet article is pentagonal in section. It measures 4.2mm in width below the collar, narrowing to 2.8mm at the centre and widening again to 3.7mm at the bottom. Below this are two more collars with a space between. This space is slightly bulbous and decorated with a groove running around the centre. Below the lower collar there is 5mm of length before the (old) break. To one side only this is decorated with a grooved X.

Typical parts of a toilet set were tweezers, ear-scoop and nail-cleaner. It is likely this was either an ear-scoop or nail-cleaner.
