Title
Roman button and loop fastener (back)
Description
English: Complete copper alloy button and loop fastener of Wild Class VIb with an enamelled head of probable second century date (Wild, J. P. 1970,141, fig.2, VIb). Length 26mm, width of head 14mm and overall thickness 14mm. weight 6.29g. The head of the toggle is square and it is flat on the reverse side. The front is divided into four equal sized square cells which are filled alternatley with red and blue enamel. The shank, sub-round in cross-section, projects rearward and turns almost 90 degrees so as to lie roughly parallel to the head. The centrally situated shank evolves into a pear-shaped loop which is also sub-round in cross-section. The copper alloy part of the toggle is corroded and in poor condition and the enamel is crazed and fragile.
