Title
Roman Toilet Spoon Toilet Article (Probably)
Description
English: A Roman copper-alloy toilet spoon. The implement, which was presumably formerly straight but is now bent into a curve (current length 57.06mm), consists of a suspension loop at one end (diameter 12.58mm), a stem with a circular cross section (diameter 2.65mm) and a small flattened oval scoop at the other end. The end of the scoop is damaged. The object weighs 2.98g. Toilet spoons are believed to have been used throughout the Roman period. Theories as to their function range from ear-scoops, spoons for the removal of small quantities of cosmetics, or "hoofs" - implements used to push back the cuticle of nails.
