Title
Roman: Oval mount
Description
English: A Roman cast copper alloy mount of pointed oval or eye-shaped form. The mount is made from sheet metal and centrally is a low circular dome. The dome is pierced and through the aperture has been inserted a short split pin which holds an annular attachment loop. Around the circumference of the mount is a series of thirteen punched circles each with a central dot; some of the dots have broken through to make a hole. On the back of the object are remins of solder.

The purpose of this mount is unclear. The shape may be intended to represent the human eye.
