Description

Rockefeller Plaza is a major tourist magnet, thanks to the NBC Today studio, Radio City Music Hall, and other points of interest. On this day, the plaza is surrounded by national flags, as it usually is, rather than US state flags as was the case during my prior New York City visit 6 months prior.

Although I tend to approach New York City more from the angle of a former resident rather than that of a tourist, I still get drawn to Rockefeller Center. One location nearby (6th Ave. and West 51st St., at 1290 Avenue of the Americas) is the location of my first-ever brush with fame - a meeting with Mariah Carey in 1994. I always like to hang around the area to re-live the memories.
