Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Robert Milligan outside the Docklands Museum Robert Milligan (c.1746-1809) was a wealthy merchant trader and shipowner whose family grew rich on the profits of slavery and sugar in the West Indies. It was he who was largely responsible for the construction of the secure dock here, to protect his cargoes from theft while ships were unloaded. (However, it might be argued that his goods were themselves ill-gotten.) The Museum occupies one of the old sugar warehouses.
