At half-past nine oclock on the morning of October12, 1870, Robert E. Lee entered into glory ever-lasting. His body lies in the mausoleum erectedat the rear of the college chapel, and beside himare laid his wife and his daughter Agnes. Abovethe tomb, and visible from the chapel hall, is Valen-tines recumbent marble figure of Lee the soldiertaking his rest, with his sword sheathed at his sideand his martial cloak around him.
