Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Robber fly (Asilidae) is an aggressive predator. He is actively looking for prey during the day. Asilidae flies are also known to have strong, thorny legs, and they have three single eyes in a special indentation on the top of their head between the two large compound eyes. They also have tight, stiff hairs on their faces called the mystax, a term that comes from the Greek mystakos meaning "mustache" or "upper lip". Mystax is thought to be a protective measure for the head and face when hunting.
