| Description |
Rhizocarpon badioatrum (Flörke ex Sprengel) Th. Fr. Image location: Serra de São Mamede, Portugal Growing on siliceous rock. This observation refers to the lichen (Rhizocarpon) at the bottom part of the 1st photo. At the center we have a small yellow Rhizocarpon and at the upper part one can see (an infertile) Miriquidica deusta. This specimen is very similar to those in observation 202029 and observation 216829, so I refer to these observations for most of the details and references. Concerning the chemistry the main feature of this specimen is the generalized purple-red reaction of the epihymenium and of the exciple (and in less extent also to the hypothecium) under the addition of KOH. Using the discussion in the above mentioned observations and taking into account the spores dimensions: (23.7) 27.2 – 32.9 (37) x (12.1) 13.6 – 17.5 (18.9) µm Q = (1.6) 1.7 – 2.2 (2.3) ; N = 27 Me = 30 × 15.4 µm ; Qe = 2 , I think that most probably this is Rhizocarpon badioatrum.
