Description

CLAY NATIONAL GUARD CENTER, Marietta, Ga., Feb. 09, 2013 – The Georgia Agribusiness Development Team II (ADT II) returned home from their 10-month deployment to Afghanistan with friends and family filling the 265th Regional Support Group National Guard armory. Master Sgt. David McElwee reunited with his wife and children at the end of the welcome home ceremony. McElwee was awarded for his actions in Afghanistan for helping save an Afghan national who had been severely injured by shrapnel.

“There is not really a class for this type of mission, it was all ad-hoc training,” said McElwee. “So the training with the University of Georgia really helped us when we got into country.” The Georgia National Guard teamed up with the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences to provide additional agriculture training and technical expertise at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton before the deployment. The small unit was highly awarded during their tour receiving 6 Combat Infantry Badges, 23 Combat Action Badges, 2 Combat Medic Badges, 15 Bronze Star Medals, 36 Army Commendation Medals, and 2 Department of the Army Awards for civilian service.
