Description |
English: In 1899, the city of Seattle gained a right-of-way for its Cedar River water mains to run through nearby Renton. Renton was connected to the Seattle water system in 1905. In 1923, water department workers laid a new steel pipeline along Renton's Second Avenue.
In this February 1923 photo, taken looking east along Second Avenue in Renton, workers remove the the paving bricks before digging the trench for the pipeline. Lengths of the new steel water main can be seen in the right of the image. The photo may have been taken by James Lee of the Seattle Engineering Department.
