Cannon, who re-cently broke ail records for length ofservioe in Congress and who is theonly man now living whose name ap-peared on the ballot with Lincolns,!and Representative Isaac R Sherwoodof Ohio, the oldest man in point ofyears who ever sat in the House, andwho is the only man in public life whostood in the throng on the east front Uncle Joe Cannon, as he is nowknown throughout the nation, who isnearing his eighty-fifth birthday, wasa mere stripling when his name ap-peared on the Lincoln ballot as a can-didate for county attorney.
