English: Remains of Havelock Mill The red structure is the remains of Manchesters Havelock Cotton Mill the cast iron construction marks the transition from craft design to engineering designs based on calculation. It is preserved in the grounds of the University of Manchester on the former Institute of Science & Technology campus. The building in the background on the right is the Barnes Wallis building named after the inventor of variable geometry (swing wing) aircraft and the "Bouncing Bomb" who studied here as did the designer of the Lancaster Bomber Roy Chadwick. |
