[edit]DescriptionRemains of Civil War Soldier Returned Home DVIDS204365.jpg |
English: Antietam National Battlefield volunteers and Civil War reenactors father and son, both named James Rosebrock, stand guard outside the Antietam National Cemetery Lodge, Sept. 15, during a ceremony of the transfer of remains of an unknown Civil War soldier from New York who was found on the Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Md., for burial in New York. The soldier was believed to be between 17 and 19 years old, based on forensic analysis, when he was killed during the Civil War's single bloodiest day. The soldier will be brought to the New York State Military Museum on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and interred at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors on Thursday, Sept. 17, the 147th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam.
