Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The original statue of Eve (ca. 1230) in the Palais de Tau, a copy is on the north facade of Reims cathedral. The statue shows Eve, carrying the serpent of temptation in her arms. The serpent is clasping an apple between its teeth. The serpent is depicted here as a dragon, because according to the creation story it had to crawl on the ground after the Fall. It is one of the rare statues where Eve is dressed, her hair covered by a veil. It shows that she has already lost her nakedness and no longer belongs to Paradise, but to the earthly world.
