Dispiértase ahora cierto amor algénero de arquitectura que domina en esta cárcel; mas cuando la ve-mos tan fria, aunque muy bella, sentimos á la verdad que nuestrosartistas vayan á buscar en sus páginas las inspiraciones que no puededarles ya ni el egoismo ni el escepticismo de este siglo. Esta arqui-tectura , y sobre todo esta fachada, carece no solo de sentimiento,sino de filosofía; y sin sentimiento y sin filosofía no hay arte, porquela belleza material no está sino en la forma bajo que este se reviste. Los monumentos del reinado de Carlos V (1) no presentan de mu-cho tanta belleza, pero tienen cuando menos mas carácter; son gra-ves, severos, arrogantes, grandiosos como su época; recuerdan aunal parecer las sangrientas batallas en que se disputaba un reino y seuncía á uno de los monarcas mas po
