and pro-moted to the acting rank of Major. For his gallantryand resource on Mount Kemmel on April 25th he wasawarded the Military Cross, having, when surrounded,cut his way out with a handful of men, and subsequentlyorganised and successfully defended another position.He was killed by an aeroplane bomb on 13th July, 1918. Of him his Colonel wrote :— As an officer and a friend he could not be surpassed.He possessed in the highest degree all those qualitieswhich made him loved by everyone both above andbelow him. 2nd Lieut. F. G. Scott, M.M. l/5th Manchester Regiment. Lieut. Scott, White Department. Enlisted in September,1914, in the 20th Royal Fusiliers (Public SchoolsBattalion). He was wounded at High Wood, andawarded the Military Medal for carrying messagessuccessfully through a very heavy barrage and returningto his battalion with the replies. Afterwards he wasgazetted as 2nd Lieut, in the l/5th Manchester Regiment,and was killed in action with them, October, 1918. ManchesterStaff
