Summary[edit]

Description

Test shots for Raynox DCR250 and Uniplus 25mm extension tube.

All shots were taken with D7000 and Nikon AFS 50mm f1.8. The following settings were used: ISO 640, f1.8, 1/125sec. No flash.

All of them are uncropped - only resized. I don't have a pro account.

Verdict:

1. Magnification: Both Raynox and the extension tube allowed me to get close to the subject. The extension tube allowed me to get closer compared to the Raynox, but only slightly. Difference is negligible.

I managed to get even closer to the subject and still get it in focus when I used both the tube and the Raynox.

2. Quality: No apparent loss of quality in all the setups. Clean and no visible noises.

However, it is obvious that there is light loss when I used the extension tube.

I get a broader focal plane with the extension tube compared to the raynox which is extremely shallow.

Conclusion: In terms of magnification, there is not much difference between the two.

The advantage of using the extension tube is that it has broader focal plane which means it is easier to keep the subject in focus compared to the Raynox.

The advantage of using the Raynox is that there is no loss in light.
