Description
English:

The Seattle Brewing and Malting Company was founded in 1893. The Company's Rainier Beer became popular on the West Coast, and it has survived Prohibition and several brewery owners. On November 3, 1914, Washington voters approved a statewide initiative to prohibit the manufacture, sale and transportation of alcoholic beverages by a count of 189,840 to 171,208. Prohibition law took effect in Washington state in 1916 - three years before a federal amendment was passed.

Text:
Intemperance is the curse of many lives, and cause of misery and crime in many instances, but prohibition is not a remedy. The inefficiency, the folly, the crime of prohibition is written in the history of China...in the history of Turkey and all Mahommedan countries since the 7th century. It is proven by the inferiority of the people of India, who were conquered by beer drinking Britons...Temperance is civilization and liberty. Prohibition is tyranny. Temperance is the habit of a strong man. Prohibition is the resort of a weak man. Self-control is better than prohibition.
