Eadio ispossible through the application of the laws of radiationand conduction to the element electricity. The funda-mental laws that govern the action of heat and lightwaves actually apply to the radiation of electrical dis-turbances. In radio, however, many elements have toenter into our problem. For instance, the nature of theether, the tendencies of various metals used in the appli-ances, etc. In passing it might be well to point to the fact that asubstance like water is, for instance, a very poor conduc-tor of heat. To prove this one can take a long narrowtest tube (glass) and place in its bottom a piece of ice,weighted down with some heavier substance to keep itfrom floating to the top. By applying a flame to the up-per part of this test tube the water in this portion of thetube may be boiled, the steam or water vapor will carry
