Description
English: Detail of a replica (?) of the war monument at the Lintersepoort in Tienen erected in 1927 (?), in the Royal Military Museum at the Jubelpark, Brussels. The monument remembers the casualties of the Battle of St.-Margriete-Houtem and Grimde. The German army was temporarily stopped at the river Gete on 18 August 1914, allowing the Belgian Army a retreat to the defences of Antwerp. The 22nd regiment lost 1250 of its 2400 men.
Nederlands: Detail van een replica (?) van het Tiense monument aan de Lintersepoort opgericht in 1927 (?) in het Koninklijk Legermuseum. Dit oorlogsmonument herdenkt de soldaten die vielen tijdens de Slag van St.-Margriete-Houtem en Grimde op 18 augustus 1914. Die dag verloor het 22ste linieregiment 1.250 van zijn 2.400 manschappen. Het Duitse leger werd tegengehouden aan de Gete, waardoor het Belgische leger zich naar het strategisch zeer belangrijke Antwerpen kon terugtrekken. Het 22ste verloor meer dan de helft van zijn 2400 manschappen bij de slag.
