Summary[edit]

Description "HOW" (Head Of Wall) Building Joint: Concrete Masonry Unit Wall stopping short of the underside of a steel deck slab above. The seal is made of rockwool packing and an approved silicone firestop caulking, which is also qualified to be used in mechanical, electrical and structural through-penetration firestop systems. Building joints are often penetrated by mechanical and electrical services. It is, therefore, prudent to be able to demonstrate due diligence of building code compliance by choosing a system that works both in joints and penetration seals to show the ability to cope with the heat that travels through to the unexposed side along a penetrant, during an accidental or test fire exposure - without spontaneous ignition or degradation that would fail the hose-stream test or permit smoke migration. This example shows that firestopping preceded spray fireproofing, which is an absolute must for code compliance.
