DescriptionPump House machinery.jpg |
English: Pumps in the Belfast Pump Room which was used to fill or empty the Thompson dry dock (the dry dock where the RMS Titanic was built). The bottom of the pit which is 12 m below ground level is level with the bottom of the dry dock.It could empty or fill the dry dock (23 million gallons or 103,500 m3) in 100 minutes. The pumps, built in 1911 were originally stream driven, but were converted to diesel power in 1950. There were three pumps, two of which are visible in the image. Thew control column of the third pump is just visible in the botton right-hand corner. They were last operated in 2001.[1]
