hrough a 30-inch by15-inch Venturi meter just before reaching the tanks,the amount being recorded on a chart by an automaticregister. From the meter the sewage passes through a30-inch Y into the Imhoff tanks. The tanks are rectangular in shape, each 31 feet wideand 90 feet long. The side walls are vertical for a depthof 18 feet 5 inches, below which are hopper bottoms 7feet 6 inches deep. Each tank has three such bottoms,making 15 in all. The total depth of each tank is 25feet 11 inches; the depth of sewage will be 24 feet 5inches. The tanks are designed for a retention periodof about three hours with the probable flow of sewagefrom 55,000 people. The sloping bottoms of the upperor sedimentation compartments are constructed of Rib-Trus metal lath plastered with Gunite. The slot atthe bottom of each sedimentation channel is 6 incheswide. The sludge compartments have a capacity sufficient toretain six months sludge accumulation, on the basis of 380 MUNICIPAL JOURNAL Vol. XXXVII. No. 12.
