ours. There were required for the work about 300,000bags of cement. In removing the cement from theshed, the bags were loaded by hand on skips, whichwere moved by jacklift trucks 50 feet to a platformelevator which delivered the skips to the chargingfloor of the concrete mixing tower where a similartruck transported the skips to the charging hopper. MIXING AND DISTRIBUTING CONCRETE The mixer was set about 20 feet above the surfaceof the ground and discharged into a 5-yard hopperwith a bottom gate through which the contents weredelivered to special 5-yard buckets on flat cars hauledby a Plymouth gasoline locomotive on an industrialtrack about 1,000 feet long, by which the buckets ofconcrete were delivered to trolley hoists on a pair oftravelling cableways of 1,000 feet span which servedthe entire area of the work under construction andenabled the concrete to be deposited in the forms atany point at an average rate of about 100 yards perhour.
