Summary[edit]
DescriptionPropaganda poster for Adolf Hitler, 1943, Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin (40202704661).jpg |
Color poster with the Nazi slogan: Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer! and a portrait of Adolf Hitler, Nazi Party leader and German Chancellor, painted by Heinrich Knirr (1962 – 1944) in 1935-1936. Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin. Nazi propaganda poster showing a half-length depiction of Hitler standing dressed in a brown NSDAP uniform and wearing a red Nazi swastika armband on his left arm, leaning on the back of a chair with his left arm, against a dark red background. Text: Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer! CARL WERNER, REICHENBACH i. V. [One people, one realm, one leader! Carl Werner, Reichenbach in Vogtland.] Original painting by Knirr based on a photograph by Heinrich Hoffman from 1935. The poster is from 1938, see Wolfgang Paul: Jahrhundert der Bilder, 2009, page 448. The headline One Volk, one Reich, one Fuehrer! was a Nazi motto and campaign slogan used before and after the Reichstag (German parliamentary) election and subsequent referendum (plebiscite) on April 10, 1938 on the Anschluss, the annexation of the Federal State of Austria into the German Reich on 13 March 1938. United States Holocaust Memorial Museum: Hitler approved the image and it was widely used on Nazi propaganda pieces and was very popular. The slogan Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Fuhrer was one of the central slogans used by Hitler and the Nazi Party. Nazi propaganda portrayed their leader (Fuhrer) as the living embodiment of the German nation and people. This slogan reinforced the cult of Hitler and the sense of destiny that the Party claimed made him the savior of Germany and father of the German people. |
