En raison d'une chasse plus intensive rapportée au nombre d'hectares de zones humides et d'une interdiction du plomb de chasse beaucoup plus tardive dans les zones humides, la prévalence de l'ingestion de plomb, et le saturnisme des oiseaux d'eau sont beaucoup plus fréquent en Europe.
