Description
English: U.S. president Gerald Ford, enroute to China, stops at Eielson Air Force Base on November 29, 1975. After a brief side trip to observe construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, he speaks at the "Thunderdome" hangar in front of a crowd estimated at 6,000. Air Force One is in the background. Behind Ford are numerous dignitaries: Henry Kissinger, Mike Gravel (with wife Rita), Betty Ford and Ted Stevens are in the front row, while Fairbanks North Star Borough mayor John A. Carlson is visible in the second row.
