Summary[edit]

Description
English: (original description:) Thanks (see below) to @Marra man for further information about this locomotive which operated in a steelworks, rather than this line.

See this web page for the details of the former line which operated between 1890 and 1953. The loco was apparently plinthed in 1990. SInce this photo, the loco seems to have been spruced up a little and a blue carriage has appeared behind the goods wagon. A list of locomotives operated within the ARBED steelworks is seen here. 25 was the ARBED fleet number, seen on the side of the tank here. Hanomag nr 21 is preserved at Esch-sur-Alzette. ARBED stands for Aciéries Réunies de Burbach-Eich-Dudelange. Arcelor, the multinational of Lakshmi Mittal was formed partly from ARBED in 2002, indeed the headquarters of Arcelor itself remains in the tax efficient Duchy of Luxembourg. AR from ARBED, CE from ACERALIA (France) and OR from USINOR (spain). The last blast furnace closed down in Belval in 1997. The line was known as De Jhangeli, the title of the definitive 1990 book on the railway by Michels-Lenger Alice, Nehrenhausen Jean and the scene at Niederpallen appeared on a 50c postage stamp of Luxembourg in 2005.

Comment by Marra man: "This 1000mm gauge 0-4-0T (La Meuse 3362/1929) used to work at the ARBED Steelworks in Esch Belval. The line its plinthed on is the old Noerdange to Martleange narrow gauge line. A good record shot at the old station site."
