Summary[edit]

Description

The R-2800 was Americas first 18-cylinder radial engine and generally considered to be one of the best radial piston engines ever designed. First run in 1937, many are still in daily use. The list of types the R-2800 was fitted to is incredible, and some of the highlights include:- A-26 Invader P-47 Thunderbolt F6F Hellcat F4U Corsair C-46 Commando Convair CV-240 Douglas DC-6 Canadair CL-215 and CH-37 Mojave helicopter. This Double Wasp appears to be from a Douglas DC-6 / C-118, judging by the cowling gills and airscoops on the mounting it is attached to. It is on display in the WW2 Hangar at Warner Robins Museum of Aviation. Georgia, USA.
