Title
English: Post office and general store at Rolling Bay, ca. 1902
Description
English:

The small settlement of Rolling Bay, on the northeast shore of Bainbridge Island, Washington, got its first post office in 1892. The mail came in by boat from Seattle or Eagle Harbor, sometimes only a few times a week. In 1902, the post office moved to Charles Carlsten's store on the bluff overlooking the town dock and mail was delivered daily. This photo, taken around 1902, shows the Rolling Bay post office in Charles Carlsten's general store on Bainbridge Island. Two women look out of the store windows past the stacks of toasted cornflakes and canned fruit. The area of the original Rolling Bay settlement is now called Manitou Beach.
