Description
English: Oval uniface portrait medallion with legend: '"MAVRITIVS.AVR.PRINC.COM.NASS.ET.MV.MAR.VE.FL.EQ.OR.PE RISCELIDIS." 1615. Maurice, Prince of Orange, Count of Nassau and Meurs, Marquess of Vere and Flushing, Knight of the Order of the Garter, 1615." Possibly cast by the 17th century. German Medallist Christian Maler. (V & A Mus., London) Note: In 1601-2, George Yeardley, future owner of Flowerdew Hundred, fought under Maurice, Prince of Orange in the Netherlands against the Spanish. Maurice, Prince of Orange, was elected Knight of the Garter, 4th February, 1613 (<a href="https://archive.org/stream/guidetoenglishme00brituoft/guidetoenglishme00brituoft_djvu.txt">https://archive.org/stream/guidetoenglishme00brituoft/guidetoenglishme00brituoft_djvu.txt</a>).

Another source gives a date of 1612 for Maurice's installation to the Order of the Garter (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Knights_and_Ladies_of_the_Garter">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Knights_and_Ladies_of_the_Garter</a>), while another gives 1613 (<a href="http://www.heraldica.org/topics/orders/garterlist.htm">http://www.heraldica.org/topics/orders/garterlist.htm</a>)

The reverse is partly covered with silvery solder and two secondary rivets have been driven through, above and to the left of the head. They project less than 1mm from the reverse. 53 x 42mm. Maximum thickness 2.3mm, however the surface is rather abraded.
