Post Medieval Coin: Sixpence of William III
Description
English: A complete but worn silver sixpence of William III (1694-1702). The coin has been bent twice and has an irregular 'S'-shaped profile, indicating that the coin has been turned into a 'love token'. Obverse shows a worn laureate bust right. Obverse legend read [GV]LIEL[MVS] III DEI GRA. Reverse shows four crowned single shields arranged as a cross with a lion rampant at the centre. Reverse legend: [___MAG/BR] FRA /ET HIB [REX_]. Diameter: 21.57mm. Thickness: 0.94mm. Weight: 2.6g. Die axis: 6 o'clock
