Title
Post-medieval : Bodkin
Description
English: Treasure case : 2009 T536 Silver dress-pin of the bodkin type Date: 17th Century

Description: A complete silver dress-pin of the bodkin type. A complete circular ear-scoop survives intact at one end. The pin then narrows, before widening out into the pin shaft, which has a rectangular section. There are two parallel incised lines, followed by a 10mm section decorated with cut-out notches along each side. Two sets of a two parallel lines border a rectangular cut out on the section of the pin shaft. There are some horizontal incised lines crudely drawn after the lines. The section of the pin then tapers to the point. The initial letters AF can be seen on one face of the pin shaft. These have crudely been scratched into the surface of the silver.

Discussion: In terms of age and as the object comprises a minimum of 10% precious metal contain it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

Dimensions: Weight: 6.8g. Length: 121.1mm, 6.6mm width, 3.5mm thick
