||
Description |
English: An almost complete post-Medieval silver dress-pin of the bodkin type. 17th century. Treasure case no. 2009 T453. A flattened section, silver bodkin, with a broken ear-scoop on a pierced tear-drop terminal and a tapering shaft. Between the terminal and the shaft is a longitudinal rectangular opening. Below the opening, the shaft tapers in width to its tip. Each flat face is decorated in a similar manner with incised double oblique lines at either side of the opening and an incised pointed 'tongue' motif below the opening. On one face, below the tongue, are the incised owner's initials: I S (or S I). The bodkin is misshapen and worn overall. Dimensions: 121.1 x 4.9 x 2.3mm. Weight: 7.26g. Metal content: The find contains a minimum of 10% silver and predates 1700. It thus qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of precious metal content and age. |
