Summary[edit]
DescriptionPort William harbour - geograph.org.uk - 1524548.jpg |
English: Port William harbour The 'planned' village of Port William and its harbour were built around the mouth of the Killantrae Burn about 1775 by Sir William Maxwell of Monreith, probably on the site of an older fishing settlement. Now used mainly by pleasure craft, small fishing boats and an inshore search and rescue boat, it has over the centuries been a centre for smuggling and was an important port for the Solway coastal trade. |
