Description

Old and new Port Pontchartain Lighthouses, Milneberg, New Orleans.

19th century engraving showing the shorter old lighthouse built in 1839, and the then new lighthouse from 1855.

The old lighthouse fell into ruin, and the base was not dismantled until the 1860s. The new lighthouse is still standing, though now inland thanks to land reclamation.
