[edit]DescriptionPort Pirie ore train from Broken Hill at Solomontown about 1951 (SLSA B 58892-499).jpg |
English: The photo is taken from the southern side of the Port Pirie Junction railway platform looking approximately south-east to Railway Terrace. A narrow gauge South Australian Railways T class steam locomotive, number 256, is hauling a long train of bogie ore cars that has originated at Broken Hill and will soon arrive at the Port Pirie smelters. A large signal cabin, with "Port Pirie Junction" and below that, "Solomontown", on its front wall, is in the middle distance (approximately at the intersection of Murn Street and Railway Terrace). Further back is a Model 75 Brill railcar, towing a brakevan on the line to Gladstone. The two closest lines are broad gauge connecting with Redhill, thence to Adelaide. In the distance on the "Up" line are bogie boxcars and men are transferring freight to/from them. On the other side of the platform there is a standard gauge line; passengers and parcels are transferred across the platform for traffic between Adelaide and Port Augusta, thence Perth, Western Australia. |
