| Description | Le barrage porte ce nom car ses plans furent réalisés par Vauban, mais il fut construit par l'ingénieur militaire français Tarade entre 1686 et 1700. Il se situe à quelques mètres en amont des Ponts Couverts, lesquels perdirent leur efficacité défensive avec les progrès de l'artillerie, ce qui nécessita de trouver une nouvelle protection pour le sud de la ville. Le barrage Vauban permettait ainsi de faire monter le niveau de l'Ill en bouchant ses arches et d'inonder les champs et les vergers de façon à embourber les troupes ennemies. |
