Description

Pluteus saupei Justo & Minnis

Image location: Trumbull Co., Ohio, USA

Collected by Chris Curry and all field photos by Chris Curry. Found on a hardwood log. Bruised blue. Had a strong odor described as being like that of Pluteus americanus. Pleurocystidia are metuloids with walls under 2 μm thick (0.7 μm and 1.0 μm for the 2 measured) and either lack horns or have short, rounded horns. All microscopic photos were from a roman aqueduct section mounted in phloxine (1 drop), congo red (1 drop) and NH4OH (2 drops).

Recognized by sight: Metuloid pleurocystidia with indistinct or rounded hooks and walls under 2
