El escritor romano Plinio “El Viejo” (23 d.C – 79 d.C.) describe las distancias a los astros visibles en aquella época y según sus predecesores Pitágoras y Sulpicio Galo.

Un estadio atico (griego) correspondía a 184,92 metros de longitud y según Pitágoras:

Distancia de la Tierra a la Luna: 23.299,92 kms. o 126.000 estadios.

Distancia de la Luna al Sol, el doble: 46.599,84 kms.

Distancia del Sol al Zodíaco (estrellas), el triple: 69.899,76 kms.

Es decir que de la Tierra al Sol: 69.899,76 kms. y de la Tierra al Zodíaco (estrellas): 139.799,52 kms.
