Description

"El edificiofue concebido también como Cárcel de Villa, fue construido a partir de 1644 según un proyecto del arquitecto Juan Gómez de Mora aprobado en 1629. Tras la muerte de Gómez de Mora en 1648, José de Villareal continuó con la construcción del edificio siguiendo en lo sustancial las trazas del proyecto original, si bien es cierto que integró el recinto entorno a un patio central que acabó convirtiéndose en el protagonista del edificio. Tras la muerte de Villareal, las obras fueron acabadas por Teodoro Ardemans y José del Olmo en 1696.

A lo largo de su historia, la Casa de la Villa ha sufrido varias reformas; la más significativa es la que realizó el arquitecto Juan de Villanueva en 1789, el cual añadió la galería de columnas que da a la calle Mayor con la finalidad de permitir a los reyes presenciar el paso de la procesión del Corpus". tomado de "madridhistorico.com"
